Colorado Springs

Three hundred-plus days of sunshine and endless ways to explore the outdoors make Colorado Springs a wonderful escape 65 miles south of Denver. Located towards the southern base of the Rockies, the city is near one of the West's most famous peaks, Pike's Peak.

The 1800s saw Colorado Springs become a thriving mining and gold rush town, while today it is home to numerous industries, including military and technology. The Air Force Academy calls the town home, and so does the United States Olympic Training Center.

Today, more than 400,000 residents live in this haven of outdoor recreation opportunities, which is constantly rated one of the best cities for outdoor pursuits in America and with good reason. Hiking trails, mountain bike trails, fishing streams and whitewater rapids can all be enjoyed in the area. Some of the Springs' top unique outdoor attractions for visitors include Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods Park, Seven Falls and Cave of the Winds.

As a golf destination, the city is headlined by U.S. Women's Open host, The Broadmoor Resort, a luxury five-star resort with three courses, though locals can find far more affordable options around the city.

The peak golf season in Colorado Springs ranges between April and October, though winter warm spells can make golfing comfortable if the courses aren't too wet. Set on a protected plain beneath the mountains, it is generally shielded from extreme weather, which makes a day with the golf clubs that much more pleasant.
