Back 9 has many steeply-sloped fairways
Fairways are somewhat rough for a forty-year old course and off the fairway is a cow pasture. Back side has many holes with steeply-sloped fairways, making drives in fairway nearly impossible. Several holes have ponds (some dry) in fairway landing area with rushes and cattails. Greens are in excellent condition, fast and true. Allright for a change of scenery from your usual courses - views are beautiful of Pike's Peak and Colorado mountain ranges, but I wouldn't play this track again soon.
Best greens and bunkers around.
These have to be the best public greens I play. Quick and true. For the most part, the greens are fast, but not too fast for the contours. If you miss a putt, you certainly can't blame it on the green.
The fairways are in pretty good shape and, though fairly straightforward, offer some challenges. The rough is... well, rough.
The bunkers have some of the best sand I've played in Colorado. Its not that dusty flat stuff that blows out in a breeze. Its more like the coral sand you see in Florida. The club slides right through it and gives the ball good action.
All in all, this is a course that will help hone your game. Especially if you need greens and bunkers you can count on.
Was not kept up and no officer to keep up play,
There was lots of rocks on the course and the play was bad.
An affordable & convenient play
Gleneagle is old, and it does need a bit more maintenance than it sometimes receives, but no one can take away the spectacular views of the front range that are seen throughout play. The course is reasonably challenging, with some very long par 4s that are uphill, some blind dog-leg holes and some natural hazards over which you must shoot. The homes surrounding the course vary, but they course is spacious enough that you don't feel housing encroachment. It is also relatively free from road traffic noise. When you get a smokin deal tee time on Golf Now, it is a really good course for the money.
