Aspen Golf Club is considered the best municipal golf course in Colorado and the 21st best in the nation, according to Golfweek Magazine's top 50 rankings for 2009-10. The 18-hole public golf course, located just a few miles from downtown Aspen, was designed by Frank Hummel and opened in 1970. While Aspen Golf Club plays at 7,156 yards from the tips, low-handicap golfers should be able to avoid trouble. It can be extremely difficult, however, to keep the focus on your round because of the awesome scenery, most notably Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak. Aspen Golf Club, which has been a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary since 2000, is open April through October. After your round you can enjoy some good food and drink at the golf course's Red Mountain Grill.
